Understanding Everything About Zinc
Zinc is a nutrient that our bodies utilize in many ways, such as gene expression, protein synthesis, immune function, and enzymatic functions. In addition, the body needs Zinc for healthy growth and development because of its cell division and growth functions.
This vital mineral is important for the activity of more than 300 enzymes within the body, such as nerve function, digestion, and metabolism, due to its development of immune cells. Zinc is also essential for skin health, protein production, and DNA synthesis. Zinc compounds, such as zinc citrate, are used to treat individuals with diarrhea or lower respiratory infections in children.
Zinc for kids can improve their senses. It can enhance the individual’s sense of smell and taste. The enzymes essential for these senses depend on Zinc, and if someone has a deficiency, it can reduce their ability to taste and smell properly.
How Zinc Supports the Immune System
Individuals with a Zinc deficiency may have weaker immune systems because the mineral is necessary for immune cell activity. Zinc is a trace element that facilitates the immune system and has a role in various biological activities. It also acts as an antioxidant. When hunting for a zinc supplement, you’ll come across various types of zinc.
Zinc citrate activates immune cells, improves immune cell function, and minimizes oxidative stress. Zinc supplements for kids will stimulate these immune cells, and research has shown can reduce the length of a cold by 33%. In addition, zinc supplements can promote immune response and reduce the risk of infections. Since 1984, scientists have shown how taking zinc supplements can aid in the recovery of cold and relieve symptoms.
The Cleveland Clinic performed a controlled study with 100 patients who developed a cold within 24 hours. The patients got divided into two groups, those that consumed zinc-free lozenges and those who had zinc-enriched lozenges. The individuals in the study who consumed the zinc-enriched lozenges recovered from cold symptoms quicker than those who didn’t.
In another study involving Iranian children between the ages of 1 and 7, the group whose treatment included zinc supplements for kids showed they recovered from symptoms including coughing, sneezing, fever, and nasal congestion quicker than the group without Zinc supplements. These studies show that consuming Zinc within the first 24 hours of cold symptoms starting is effective in treating the common cold.
In 2009, studies polled a group of school children that received 10mg of Zinc supplements for kids each day for five months throughout the winter and those who didn’t. The group that received the zinc supplements had fewer common cold episodes than those that had more missed school days. Research has also shown that zinc supplements could reduce our reliance on antibiotics when fighting bacterial infections.
Zinc is Anti-Inflammatory
Zinc is an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant mineral that is essential for cell-mediated immunity. It reduces oxidative stress and inflammatory protein levels in the body. In older patients, zinc supplementation has been shown to lower infection rates, oxidative stress, and the development of inflammatory responses.
Zinc Helps with the Treatment of Pediatric Diarrhea
Zinc supplementation and oral rehydration solutions have been shown in recent studies to aid the treatment of acute diarrhea in children by minimizing the duration and intensity. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends a daily zinc intake of 10mg for infants under 6 months and 20mg for children with acute diarrhea.
Zinc Daily Dosage Recommendations
The recommended zinc intake is calculated using the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA), which is the number of nutrients required to meet the nutritional needs of the majority of healthy people. The current RDAs for zinc, as suggested by Health Canada, are provided below and include the Zinc for kids RDA at every age.
Zinc Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDAs)
Higher zinc intake may provide additional benefits. If you’re looking for specific guidance, you should consult with your healthcare practitioner for assistance. Complying with the zinc tolerable upper intake levels (ULs) is essential, as long-term intakes exceeding the UL will increase the risk of health problems.

Who Should Take Zinc Supplements?
Zinc deficiency can affect everyone, including children, pregnant or lactating mothers, vegans and vegetarians, and many others. Zinc is mostly present in animal-based foods such as seafood, meat, dairy, and eggs, making it difficult for vegans and vegetarians to receive zinc through food. Vegans also eat a lot of legumes and whole grains that contain phytates, which might interfere with zinc absorption.
allKiDz Zinc Gummies are perfect for vegetarians, vegans, and plant-based eaters, as the zinc gummies contain no animal products.
You can also rest assured your kids will enjoy the zinc gummies, as the zinc supplement for kids has a delicious flavor and are easy to consume.
Toxicity and Cautions of Zinc Intake
Overdosing on zinc can cause nausea, vomiting, headaches, and indigestion. To minimize any side effects from taking zinc supplements for kids, ensure the individual is consuming the proper daily dose and consider consuming zinc gummies with meals to prevent an upset stomach.
Research has shown that prolonged high serum zinc could interfere with one’s copper metabolism. Therefore, copper should get supplemented with a prolonged high zinc dose to reduce the risk of copper deficiency. Zinc supplements can also interact with various medications such as antibiotics, diuretics, and penicillamine. Therefore, consider taking Zinc a few hours before or after other medicines or natural health products.

Being Vegan it is so important to balance your zinc and copper intake. Small doses of zinc are so important as having too much is not good for you. The 10 mg is perfect! And my kids said these taste amazing.
dianna –
Both my 8yr and 4yr old kids likes the zinc gummies. Good value for money when it’s only taken as 1 vitamin per day!
Because i have 2 children i have been ordering about 1 per month (not always an option though)
I believe its a good supplement in itself to purchase them but I also find its a bit expensive and with the extra $5 shipping. Because of the now overall price I pay for only 1 months of ‘just zinc’ part of our daily supplements.
Roughly 30 dollars per month, just want to add our other added vitamins we buy every other month is around 150 vitamins for $13 no shipping.
Pricing and ingredient comparing is needed when shopping! Still a great product however!
TanyaB –
My kids love the zinc gummies, they taste really good. Only complaint is the price, with 3 kids one bottle doesn’t last long.

Since my kids stay home for more than a year with virtual learning, they didn’t get enough outdoor activities under the sun like the old days. I have done lots of researches to find the zinc supplement for them. This zinc gummy has the most zinc amount, 10mg zinc in each gummy. The most important that it has no artificial flavors, colors or sweeteners.
I did try it as well, grape fruit flavor, soft but not stick in my teeth which is great. My kids love this gummy so much, it gone really fast. I’m ordering another one now.
